Cleanings (Prophylaxis)

Dental Cleaning (Prophylaxis) and Flouride

Your child’s dental visit begins with a thorough cleaning of their teeth to remove plaque and calculus, which are hard tartar deposits that can lead to cavities and gum disease. This comprehensive cleaning is essential in maintaining your child’s oral hygiene and preventing dental issues that can arise from the buildup of plaque and tartar.

After the cleaning, a fluoride treatment is applied to your child's teeth. Fluoride is a crucial component in dental care as it helps protect and strengthen the teeth by reinforcing the enamel, making it more resistant to decay. This treatment is particularly effective in safeguarding the weaker areas of your child’s teeth, ensuring they remain healthy and strong.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that children visit a pediatric dentist at least every six months for a routine evaluation of their oral health and development. These regular visits are important for monitoring the growth and development of your child’s teeth and gums, allowing for early detection and treatment of any potential issues.

For children who have special needs or are more susceptible to dental caries (tooth decay), more frequent dental visits may be necessary. In such cases, the dentist might recommend appointments at shorter intervals to closely monitor and manage your child’s oral health. This proactive approach ensures that any dental problems are addressed promptly, reducing the risk of more serious issues developing.

In addition to regular check-ups and cleanings, our dental team will provide personalized advice on maintaining good oral hygiene at home. This includes guidance on effective brushing and flossing techniques, as well as tips on a healthy diet that supports dental health. By following these recommendations, you can help your child maintain a bright and healthy smile.

Our goal is to create a positive and supportive environment for your child’s dental care. We strive to make each visit enjoyable and stress-free, helping your child develop a positive attitude towards dental health. Regular dental visits, combined with proper oral hygiene practices at home, are key to ensuring your child’s teeth and gums remain healthy for years to come.
