At Chompers Pediatric Dentistry, our office is designed specifically for children to ensure they have a positive and stress-free dental experience. We feature an open hygiene area where children can comfortably undergo their checkups. Each chair in this area is equipped with a personal TV and headphones, helping children relax while their teeth are cleaned and examined.
Our open bay design allows us to effectively implement the “tell, show, do” method. This technique involves explaining to children what will happen ("tell"), demonstrating the procedure on a model or another patient ("show"), and then performing the procedure ("do"). This approach helps demystify the dental experience and reduces fear and anxiety.
Research indicates that most children respond well to an open bay hygiene room because it prevents them from feeling confined. Being able to see other children undergoing similar treatments helps them understand that dental visits are routine and not something to be afraid of. This environment fosters a sense of normalcy and reassurance.
The benches in our open bay area are stationary, similar to those found in a pediatrician’s office. This design choice helps alleviate the fear of falling that some children experience with moving dental chairs. The familiarity of the stationary benches makes children feel more secure and comfortable, easing their anxiety. However, we understand that this setup might not work for all children. For those who are highly sensitive to their surroundings, we offer private rooms to ensure they feel comfortable and secure.
We reserve our open bay area for dental checkups and cleanings. More complex treatments are performed in traditional dental rooms, but children pass by the open bay area during each visit, reinforcing the idea that dental care is a routine and positive experience. This consistent exposure helps normalize dental visits, making them a regular and non-threatening part of their healthcare routine.
At Chompers Pediatric Dentistry, we are dedicated to creating an environment that supports the emotional and psychological well-being of our young patients. By using an open concept design, we foster a sense of community and shared experience, which can be incredibly reassuring for children. We are committed to providing the best dental care in an atmosphere that is both professional and comforting, ensuring every child leaves with a smile.
