First Visit Expectations
We want your child’s first dental visit to feel calm, welcoming, and pressure-free. Building comfort and trust from the very beginning is always our priority. We move at your child’s pace, explaining each step and taking time to make sure they feel safe, heard, and supported throughout the visit.

A Visit Built Around Your Family
Your first appointment isn’t just about checking teeth — it’s about getting to know your family and helping your child feel comfortable from the start. Here’s what you can expect during a new patient visit:
Connecting with Your Child
We take time to build trust and help your child feel safe, seen, and supported throughout their visit.
Empowering Parents with Education
You’ll receive clear, judgment-free guidance on topics like brushing habits, nutrition, thumb-sucking, fluoride options, airway health, and more.
Listening to Your Goals
We welcome questions, ideas, and preferences. Whether you’re exploring a fluoride-free approach or have a specific care philosophy, we’re here to support you.
Making It Fun!
From playful interactions to cheerful surroundings, we aim to help your child feel at ease — and maybe even excited — about their visit.

What If It’s Their First-Ever Dental Visit?
Perfect! We’ll gently introduce your child to the sights and sounds of the dental office at their own pace. There’s no pressure to complete every step during the first visit. If appropriate for your child’s age and comfort level, we may do a quick exam or count teeth — but our top priority is helping your child feel comfortable and confident.
What to Bring?
To help make your visit go as smoothly as possible, we recommend bringing the following:
A favorite toy or stuffed animal
Something familiar can help your child feel cozy and at ease
Insurance card
(if you have dental insurance)
Any previous dental records
or just let us know if your child has seen another dentist, and we’ll gladly request the records for you
Forms & Paperwork
We’ll send you a secure link to our digital new patient forms before your appointment. Completing them ahead of time helps us prepare and keeps your child’s visit relaxed and focused on comfort. If you need help at any point, our team is happy to assist.
Families Choose Chompers for a Thoughtful First Visit
We’re based in South San Francisco, and many families come to us because they’re looking for a calm, child-centered dental experience. If comfort, communication, and a gentle approach matter to you, you’re in the right place.

Does Your Child Feel Nervous About Dental Visits?
You’re not alone — dental anxiety is very common, especially for young children. Our team has extensive experience supporting anxious patients with patience, clear communication, and a gentle, child-centered approach.
We take time to help children feel comfortable, explain things in age-appropriate ways, and never rush the visit. For children who need extra support, we’ll talk with you about options that can help make their experience easier and more positive.
Fluoride-Free Care Options
We respect that every family has different preferences when it comes to dental care. If you’re interested in fluoride-free options, we’re happy to talk through what’s available and help you decide what feels right for your child.
Our team will explain each option clearly and support your choices without pressure or judgment.
